Illustrated with scenes from the Photoplay a First National Picture.7 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches; 310 pages plus several pages of publisher's ads; black and white photo stills from the silent film adaptation. Black cloth boards with orange titles and decoration, mild edge wear, previous owner's name in front end paper, pages lightly toned with age, binding sound, worn dust jacket with chipping at extremities, two tears to bottom front edge with old scotch tape repair on inside of jacket, tide mark to top front corner about two inches long, now in protective mylar cover. From the front jacket flap: A rollicking yarn of colonial times centered about the figure of Captain Dixy Bull, pirate and terror of the Maine coast. Chance and circumstances conspire to thrust upon Tremble-at-Evil Tidd, a timorous Boston tailor, the glory of impersonating the doughty captain... A rattling good yarn, with plenty of romantic coloring, full of life, action and lively humor. Clothes Make the Pirate was adapted to a silent film in 1925, starring Leon Errol and Dorothy Gish. The film was written by Marion Fairfax from the novel by Holman Francis Day and directed by Maurice Tourneur. It is a lost film, with only a one-minute trailer surviving. Photoplay editions were the forerunners of movie tie-in editions in books. They were editions produced to accompany silent films and the early motion pictures of the sound era when movies were known as photoplays.
