Brown calf covered boards, banded spine with black title blocks and titles and decoration in gilt, leather heavily scuffed and worn, small brown stain near head of spine, previous owner's initials burned onto rear board, stains to top edge of text block which bleed into top margins of pages, previous owner's name, location and date of 1914 written in front end paper, tanning in end papers, lightly toned pages are clean and crisp, binding bears careful handling due to size and weight but is sound and intact. From Acacia to Zingiber, hundreds of formulas for creating the official drugs and preparations used in medicine at the beginning of the twentieth century. Also includes a section on nonofficial medicines, along with a glossary, index of diseases, the text of The Food and Drugs act of 1907, with a lengthy collection of food and drug decisions, a food and drugs index, a national formulary and various other tests, tables and charts.
