unnumbered pages, black and white photographic illustrations on every page; pictorial boards with light wear at corners and spine ends, faint yellowed square in front end paper where a sticker or book plate was removed, clean unmarked pages, sound binding, dust jacket with mild wear at edges and a bit of chipping at corners, small closed tear at tail of spine. Have you met Dare Wright's angsty little doll Edith and her friend Little Bear? Dare Wright, who was a model and photographer, created a series of books for children known as the Lonely Doll Series. She illustrated all the books with black & white photographs of her childhood doll and two stuffed teddy bears, in great detail. She started the series in the late 1950s, and went on to write and photograph eighteen more books over the next couple of decades. The photographs are spectacular, and the stories tend to be unusual. Many of the books are now out of print. In this volume, Edith, Mr Bear, and Little Bear go to the country to visit Mr Bear's cousin. They are warned to stay away from the dark wood, but ignore the advice and go exploring the countryside. When they meet Big Bad Bill, he ties Edith to a tree, but in time Edith and Little Bear realize he is not a bad bear at all, only lonely. This is one of the harder to find books in the series and it has not been brought back into print.
