The title, translated into English: Canton of Zurich Churches, Castles and Palaces for Recordings of Ludwig Schulthess. Hermann Escher dedicated as a Festschrift on his 60th birthday by friends and admirers. In academia, a Festschrift is a book honoring a respected person, especially an academic, and presented during his or her lifetime. Hermann Escher was the Director of the Central Library of Zurich. This is a large bound collection of mounted architectural drawings of Ludwig Schulthess, a Swiss engineer and draftsman. The pages are a heavy stock, and the images are matted. Each image is just over 6x8 inches. The book is half-bound in vellum over fine paper with a red leather oval for titles in gilt. The boards are rubbed with some mild scuffing and edge wear. Small area of tail of front board with heavy chipping. Damp stain along rear joint of spine. Scattered foxing to text pages and light toning to edges of stock pages. Binding sound.
