Limited edition; leather bound hardcover, 8 3/4 x 5 3/4 inches, 313 pages, tissue guarded color illustrations. Embossed green Morocco with elaborate decorations in gilt, green and blue, top edge gilt, blue moire end papers, ribbon bookmark, boards worn at edges and spine ends, sprinkling of light water spots on front board, spine is sun faded, internally clean and sound. Joseph Alexander Altsheler (1862 - 1919) was an American newspaper reporter, editor and author of popular juvenile historical fiction. He was a prolific writer, and produced fifty-one novels and at least fifty-three short stories. Sun of Saratoga is a Romance of Burgoyne's surrender. The binding is beautiful and part of a series of bindings done by the publisher as replicas of bindings done for royalty in earlier centuries. This is design number 3: a very beautiful design by Thomas Maroli, 1549.
